What am I gonna do?
Evelyn spent all day sitting alone in the darkness, trying to figure out how she could face Lucas again.
He must hate me… She thought miserably. And could she really blame him? She’d rejected him so abruptly, so coldly. I have to explain myself. Evelyn decided. Lucas deserved to understand why.
————————————
When she ventured outside that evening, Lucas was already waiting for her, his nervousness apparent on his face. “Evelyn,” he began speaking as she drew closer to him. “About last night…”
“No, please.” She interrupted, cutting him off. “I… I owe you an apology.” The ghost hung her head low.
Lucas simply shook his head in return. “You don’t.” He insisted. “I do. It was really stupid of me to say those things to you…” The boy’s cheeks reddened slightly as he spoke. “It doesn’t change how I feel,” he admitted, “but I shouldn’t have put you on the spot like that, or been so forward about it… Can you forgive me?”
“Lucas, there’s nothing to forgive.”
He continued on, ignoring her words. “I know you still think of me as a kid… I mean, I’m not even 17 yet…” Lucas muttered, embarrassed. “But we’ll be the same age in a few years.” He added, almost hopefully. “So, maybe…”
Evelyn cut him off with a laugh that may have been of bitterness or amusement… maybe both.
“What?” Lucas demanded, slightly annoyed and even more embarrassed than before.
“I’m sorry.” Evelyn tried her best to stop laughing. “But that’s the problem, don’t you get it?” She sighed. “I look 20, I act 20, I even feel 20. And I’ve felt this way for the past 25 years… I’m stuck. Forever.”
The smile was completely gone from her face now. Evelyn floated silently toward the nearby patio table as she continued. Lucas followed. “I’m 45 years old, Lucas. But I’m stuck at 20. Someday, you’ll be 45 years old, and I’ll still be stuck at 20. And then one day, years from now, you’ll be long gone and I’ll be one hundred and forty-five years old. And guess what?” She shook her head. “Still stuck…”
“I still don’t know what I did to deserve this.” Evelyn went on. “But that’s the way it is. So yeah, I guess I still think of you as a kid. But that’s not the problem. The problem is that I still think of myself as barely more than a kid… And I always will. And that’s not fair to either one of us.”
She finally stopped speaking, looking nervously toward Lucas for a reaction.
“So… It’s not that you don’t… y’know. Feel the same about me?” He asked nervously.
Evelyn bit her lip. “Of course it’s not that.” She admitted. “Things have been changing a lot between us the past couple years… We both know that. But what hasn’t changed is the fact that this… us… Would never work.”
“Well, why not?”
“Have you seriously not heard a word I’ve said?”
“I have.” Lucas said softly. “But I still don’t see why not… Don’t you remember my promise? I’m gonna find a way to get you your life back. I’ll never stop trying.” He insisted.
Evelyn simply rolled her eyes. “Sure. And what happens if it doesn’t work? What if you never find a way?”
Lucas did not hesitate. “I will.” He said firmly. “But even if I don’t, who cares?”
“You will. You’ll care. Don’t you want to be married someday?” Evelyn countered, her voice full of sadness. “Don’t you want children?”
“Of course.”
“And how would that work, exactly? If I stay stuck like this…”
This time, Lucas did hesitate. “I… I don’t know.” He admitted.
Evelyn rose from her seat, turning away from him. “See?” She muttered.
Lucas got to his feet as well. “Hey, look… I don’t know what’s gonna happen, okay?”
“I don’t want to hold you back.” The girl shook her head. “I don’t want to hurt you… Or have you hurt me…” She added sadly.
“I would never do that!” Lucas reached out, touching her cheek as gently as he could so as not to pass through her.
“You say that now…”
Lucas thought back to his father’s words from just a few days before. “Maybe things will work out, maybe they won’t…This kind of thing can be scary, but you have to be brave.”
So Lucas decided to be brave.
He reached out to her, as firmly as he was able to, and kissed her.
Evelyn raised her arms in shock, and considered pulling away from him. But the slight warmth of his lips on hers and the barely-perceptible pressure of his hands on her shoulder and the small of her back felt so natural, so right that she let it happen, pulling herself closer to him.
Unfortunately, their bliss did not last for long. They became a bit over-zealous, trying to pull themselves too close together, and pressing their lips together too tightly. Lucas gasped sharply as his entire face was enveloped in a freezing-cold mist when it passed straight through Evelyn.
They pulled apart abruptly, giggling.
“It’s like I said, this won’t work.” Evelyn said, though she smiled as she did so.
“Maybe not.” Lucas agreed. “But I’m willing to still try, if you are.” He reached out, gently cupping her hands in his.
Evelyn knew this could only end in disaster, but as she looked into his bright green eyes, she could not find it in her heart to disagree. “Okay,” she smiled, “I’m game.”
Can we have a few happy chapters before the disaster hits? lol

I’m sorry, it was so romantic until ” enveloped in a freezing-cold mist when it passed straight through Evelyn.” I had to laugh.
And again, I’ll apologize but I’ll quote what Edward told Bella once lol (okay, I didn’t read the first book and I was going from what I heard in the movie, I thought the book had a similar quote but apparently doesn’t exist) “Is it not enough, just to have a long and happy life with me?”
Why can’t she just enjoy the moment and see what happens in the future. She should know you can’t be certain about tomorrow.

Hahaha don’t worry, that part was supposed to be funny to help lighten the mood XD And yes, poor Evelyn is just so afraid of what will happen in the future. She’s definitely more of a pessimist, who sees the world more “realistically”, whereas Lucas is an optimist and a dreamer. They kind of compliment each other in that way, I think! 🙂

Aw these two! ❤ 🙂 It's really fun to read both parts together to see how Lucas saw things, and then to read Evelyn view later. This explains her reaction so well. I love how you worked in the emotions with the Sims' reactions!
I wish them all the best. I hope that Lucas will find a way! 🙂

Thank you!!!! 🙂 I’m definitely trying to give you insight into both of their points of views so you know where they’re coming from. I’m glad you’re enjoying it, and wishing the lovebirds well 😛

A dear friend of mine (and fellow sim writer) has been on vacation and she just got back. I gushed about how amazing your story is. I can’t wait for her to read it! 🙂

Usually I’m not that into romance (okay, barely interested at all), but when you add in a ghost, difficulties with physical intimacy, and the probability of outliving the mortal boyfriend it suddenly makes me all excited to read more!

Hahahaha there are definitely lots of complexities to this particular romance 😉 Haha I’m glad you’re still enjoying! There’s a lot to come for Lucas and Evelyn… 😛

I’m glad that Lucas & Evelyn are at least giving love a try for as the saying goes, ‘It’s better to have loved than to have never loved at all.’ Hope that they’ll treasure whatever time they have together during this time and make memories to last a lifetime and beyond.

Ahh Joie! You started from the beginning ❤ This makes me happy! Haha (and isn't it hysterical? The best part is that it was an accident! I have a mod for adult-teen romance, so I totally forgot Ev was a YA and Lucas was a teen lmao and they have different kissing animations 😉 then I was like "ooh, this works!" so Ev was aged-down to a teen for that one successful kiss shot hehehe

Oof, note to self: when kissing a ghost, don’t press your lips to theirs too hard. Of course, I’ll never kiss a ghost, but still. Good sage advice right there. 😉

Oh I nearly cried when Evelyn was explaining why she couldn’t be with him at the beginning of the chapter! It’s so sad and depressing. You did a great job of capturing the emotion of “stuck” through your words and images. I felt her pain.
Lucas’ nervous question about her feelings made me smile though. Lucas is so resolved and sweet and naive. I have a feeling this will be a long, long process for them to find a way to make her un-ghost-like? to unghostify her? Idk… word choice aside… I’m sure they’re both in it for the long haul.
Their kiss was sweet, albeit awkward when he went through her face. I liked the idea of a cool mist. Great way to capture the feeling.

Thank you so much! Lucas and Evelyn’s relationship is… Complex. Haha and it was sometimes tricky to convey all the feelings (both in writing and images) so I’m glad it came across well!
And yes, unfortunately they have a VERY long road ahead of them… (About 90 chapters or so 😉 ). Thank you for reading! Your comments make me happy ^_^

You’re welcome! I love your story. I’m just really bad about keeping up with all the Sims stories I love. Real life has a tendency to get in the way. But I’m glad I was able to read one chapter today.

Oh, Evelyn. How amazing and sad at the same time. I mean, I’m a hopeless romantic and all, but I don’t see this working out in any way. Just broken hearts. 😦
Super well written, btw. I love how well your screenshots fit into your story. Or the other way around…whatever that crazy process is 😉

Thank you! 🙂 I didn’t discover Tab-mode for screenshots until like chapter 50 (not even kidding) so the quality will get much better like halfway through XD But I’m glad you find them fitting! They get more and more carefully staged as time goes on and I become more of a perfectionist… hehehe 😛 Thank you so much for reading 😀

At that end I was hoping his parents wouldn’t stroll out of their bedroom and find him kissing the ‘air’ or what they see as just air. That would take a lot of explaining.

I was relieved when they didn’t. I think Lucas would be traumatised for life if it happened.

😡 Just found your story and have been reading it non-stop til this chapter! I got teary eyed when their kiss disconnected that way! OMG i’m so relieved neither are affected by it nor say something stupid like ‘lets not do that again’. And I’m glad I can read all the way through without your nasty (too amazing) cliffhangers.
In case that wasn’t obvious, I love this story!
