Oh no! Poor Evelyn! He could at least break up with her before doing this… or maybe he didn’t and left before it got that far… but still. It shows that he definitely doesn’t care for Evelyn as much as he did beforehand, because else he wouldn’t have thought about this. It’s weird just how much he seems to have changed between the camping trip and now 😦

Lucas had definitely changed over the years! I did worry that the change in their relationship dynamic would feel kinda sudden, so I appreciate the feedback that it kinda did! Too late for me to go back and change things, but it’s good to keep in mind for the future of this story.
It’s been four years since the camping trip (Lucas had just turned 17 at that time, now he’s 21) so that’s a lot of time he’s spent slowly getting “stuck” in his relationship.
He loves Evelyn, he really does. But things aren’t working out the way he’d hoped, unfortunately!

lol, nah I know it has to get bad before it can get better…I don’t necessarily judge him for the flirting…I judge him for the drinking that led to the flirting!!! Also his buddies, just noooope! XD

Well, I sort of knew where it was heading after reading Rory’s comment last time and considered Lucas being the character you feared being hated rather than Evelyn. But, I didn’t expect it this way. Wow, I mean, I know he was drunk and that’s usually their excuse but was he really? Did he still knew what he was doing. If he hadn’t drunk any, would he still had gone? What will he think tomorrow? (again, in game XD) Will he tell Evelyn something or will this make him realize he wants other things… If Evelyn finds out – I mean she has to eventually, nothing ever stays hidden – what will she think? How will this affect her feelings and everything else. So many things that could happen.
By the way, awesome chapter. I love these kind ( I say it because there are now two) and obviously it didn’t need the words.

You’ll find out in tomorrow’s chapter what Lucas’ thoughts are the next morning… Sorry it didn’t really stay a surprise… I say too much on the forums XD But maybe it helped soften the blow for some people? Hahaha. And thank you for the compliment about the wordless chapters! They are the most work, but also the ones that end up being my favorites!

It’s okay if you talk about it, that’s what the forums are for. Even if I saw it coming, I didn’t know how it would happen. I actually thought he was just going to walk away or fall in love with another girl, definitely not this.
Don’t worry too much about how the story is going, I think it’s coming along great and even if there are time jumps, they’re making sense. Sometimes people will hate characters but that doesn’t mean they don’t like the story. Don’t we all go through that with movies and books?

This is exactly what would and should have happened. He should try dating real people too. If his love for Ev is stronger then it’ll work out. I just hope he went back to her place or a hotel. No need to rub it in where she can see.

I don’t need my heroes to be good. I want them believable. And at 21, this was believable. Plus I think important to his development. In his world, ghosts can’t become real. I would highly recommend he look at other women…although probably not women just looking for a young drunk boy in over his head for a one-night fling. He could do better.

Yes, not Lucas’ proudest moment… 😦 But, as beautiful and wonderful as Evelyn is, she’s not ALIVE, and Lucas really wanted to experience something physical with someone he could actually FEEL. I don’t think he would have acted on these urges without the alcohol though

My original plan was to binge read the whole story before leaving one like summary/review-type comment, but I can’t just pass this interlude without saying anything. The whole time I was like bouncing in my seat shouting “Noooooooo!”
BUT I really admire you for taking the story in this direction. I agree with another reader here in that I think this was necessary. And totally believable. I can’t hate Lucas for this. UGH GREAT STORYTELLING!

Just so you know….I did NOT want to “like” this chapter. I pushed the button anyway, but I didn’t want to.
I agree with Rae, though. Drinking and being 21, realistically, he would find other women attractive that have something he can touch. I may not like this chapter, but I’m seriously beginning to really love this story. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the story already, but, for some reason, this chapter is a turning point for me. He’s real and Evelyn is not. Life must go on. Sadly. Now, I’m still rooting for Evelyn and Lucas, of course, but my mind needs to remain open.

Ugh. Obviously I knew there was another woman coming along eventually based on the extreme comments made during the time when you were still posting this story–doesn’t make it any easier to see, though. Ev is going to be heartbroken and I know Lucas is going to feel so torn it will hurt him, too.

Thank you! You bring up really excellent points about their relationship! When I set out to write this story in the first place, I started thinking about all the reasons why this relationship really would have a hard time working in the long run. Here we have a prime example!

NOOO! I’m so heartbroken for Evelyn. Its understandable and in a way admirable for Lucas to hold on for as long as he did. But I’m personally always biased towards the less fortunate and admittedly they both are, but sigh.. Lucas I hope you find a cure for Ev and make it all up to her. Will she forgive you though? 😦

I agree with the other readers on this one. It’s understandable that Lucas is frustrated, but at the same time, Evelyn may feel hurt.
