That was so so so so so so hard to convey without words. I decided to do it that way because I felt like it would get redundant to be like “Ev had an epiphany and shared it. Then they figured out the first section of the map, but the fish wasn’t there. Time went by. They kept trying to figure it out. They solved the second part of the map, but the fish wasn’t there either. More time went by…” etc. haha

But, at the same time, there was a lot that was very difficult to get across without any writing! The hardest was the Evelyn/Melanie thing, I think. They are NOT friends now (sorry! haha) but I think the fact that both of them are so good at problem-solving/puzzle-solving has certainly eased up some of the tension between them, and made them more comfortable talking with one another. But I don’t imagine them having any conversations that don’t involve the map. Still though… progress! 😛

Sorry for the long author’s note haha. Thank you for reading! (Or, in this case, looking at pictures haha)

I feel like this was the perfect way to convey what’s going on, honestly words (no matter how great) would have taken away from it.

All those sad faces need a hug, even Ev’s.

Awww! I gasped when I saw them talking together. I was like THEY’RE FRIENDS NOW?! lol. Good choice with no words. I think you conveyed the passing of time well. Some of the pictures I didn’t get, but the overall message was there.

Yeah, I figured some stuff wouldn’t 100% “translate”, so next chapter we will get a little more clarification via thoughts haha (especially the Mel and Ev thing). I could help “translate” a specific picture you may have a question about though. I tried so hard haha but it was challenging

It probably does even matter, but the ones in the middle with Lucas and Krysti at the fishing spot. Probably because I didn’t recognize it.

Aha, that one! Haha welllll as you probably know, there are only two hidden fishing/gardening spots besides the deep woods. And the other hidden spot may or may not appear in a future chapter *COUGH* (haha), so I was stumped for what to do for another fishing spot that LOOKS “special”/almost-mystical. I ended up searching through the gallery and finding that second one. I placed it in Magnolia Promenade and, since there’s no special way to enter (not like the mine shaft in the oasis springs one or tree in willow creek), I zoomed in on the woods to try to show that they had to go deep into the woods.

but there’s one problem — it’s a POOL, not a real pond, so it’s impossible to fish there (fun fact, Lucas and Krysti autonomously changed into their bathing suits and sat on the edge together. It was hysterical! XD)

Anyway, I noticed that, as a consequence of it being a pool, the water is crystal-clear and you can tell there are no fish there. So that section is supposed to be them looking in the water and realizing that they came all that way, but there aren’t even any fish in there.

Sorry that answer became so long hahah

Yeah, I figured it was a pool. I’m sure everyone else got it. I tend to be too literal and was like “what is this place? Why are they standing at a pool looking crazy?” LOL

Lol I’m sure you aren’t the only one who was confused! Like I said, some of it was so hard to convey haha. And when I showed it on my Bf, he didn’t get the one where Krysti was telling Mitch and Danica that she’s pregnant, because her baby bump was small… So he was like “did they figure out part of the map or something?” Haha. So I’m sure stuff like that was also unclear. Lucas will have some reflection in the next chapter to help fill in some blanks for sure though 😉

LOL, that’s because he doesn’t play. Poor bf lol.

I will never give up trying to make him play Hahahahaha He has zero interest, so sad! (He likes the sims medieval though because of the quest/story aspect haha).

The Sims Medieval is the funniest game. I just started playing it a few months ago.

I really enjoy it! 🙂 but once you do all the quests, it gets old haha. My favorite is the quest where you can make a wish and you ask the townsfolk what they would wish for and this one lady says something like “I wish I could see my son Timmy become a man. He’s been a child for thirty five years!” Hahahaha it killed me XD

I loved this chapter! Sometimes it’s great to have a whole chapter where the pictures speak for themselves 🙂

Yes, I love them! I only did 6 wordless chapters and part of me wishes I’d done more hahaha. I’m glad you enjoyed this one 🙂 (and I’m glad you’re reading this story too! Thanks!)

This was a really interesting way to tell this chapter. I really enjoyed it. It conveyed the story and progressed it. It also made me spend more time looking at the individual screenshots so I could make sure I got the story and where it was going.

Wooh, your first comment! Haha I think you started reading super late and still haven’t gone back, yes? 🙂 This is actually my fourth wordless interlude (all of the others were before chapter 40) I love them, but they’re very hard haha. I just didn’t know if you knew I’d done them before too 🙂 Thank you for the compliment on my chapter!

I didn’t, but I still like the interlude. 🙂 I really want to go back and start from the beginning, but I know I’ll want to sit and read it in one go, so I’m waiting until I really have a break so I’m not neglecting anything important (school).

  3. Geez, where is that freaking FISH?!?!?

Seriously, I think you did a good choice with making it wordless. It added drama and tension! (Not that this story needed more of those, but still… great work 🙂 )

I didn’t really get the impression that Mel and Ev were friends. A part of me thinks that Mel is so desperate to solve the puzzle to get this over with and be back to normal, with Ev out of the house lol. I think she feels that she owes Ev, because she struggles to be neutral around her, but once Ev would be revived Mel the debt would be repaid and she wouldn’t have to tippy toe around her anymore.

Pretty good analysis there! Mel is definitely experiencing some of those thoughts/feelings, and her current behavior toward Ev is certainly in part because of that (though there are other factors in play too). Thank you for the insightful comment!!

I hope they facepalm when they actually DO find the fish…

Ia agree that this worked really well to show the futility of it all. … Did you know you can put fishing signs next to pools? I just did In Sixam, although I haven’t tested it to see if anyone can fish there….actually if you need another mysterious looking fishing spot with weird plants. Ha! Anyway I have to say that wordless chapters are some of the best interludes.

*responds hours later* Thank you! Also, fun fact — it took me like an hour to make that stupid map hahaha. I know it looks lame, but I wanted to be able to offer SOME sort of visual to give people an idea of what they’re dealing with with this map haha

  8. The map was aaammmaaazing! How cool! I loved the progression of time through the photos as well. I was able to let my mind wander and come up with, “what ifs.” A great chapter! 🙂

This chapter is probably my favourite so far. You’ve really made this work without any words, and the pictures are gorgeous especially in that cave. It’s also nice to see the different emotions they go through, from disappointment to moments of triumph and back again. Krysti’s pregnancy was also a good way to show that a lot of time is passing. And you also used Evelyn’s changing colour especially well in this.

All in all, I loved it!

I see that Mel and Evelyn had a mission to work together. That’s why they tolerate each other. I’m sure if they succeed and Evelyn gets her life back, Evelyn will find a man and maybe leave. Or perhaps Lucas and Mel will die before that even happens, which means Krystina and her family will work on it until it happens. Ugh. So much time, so few results.

I did really like the chapter, though. Lots of pictures are fun! I hope to do it eventually in one of my stories. Some pictures I didn’t get either, BUT I understood most of what they all meant together. 😀
