**If you enjoyed Dust to Dust (which I really hope you did!) I’d love for you to consider checking out my legacy story, Ashes to Ashes, which follows Krysti’s son/Lucas’ grandson Alex as we continue to explore the lives of the descendants of the Ainsworth family. It is not a traditional legacy (it’s entirely plot-driven) but is a legacy in that the story spans many generations ^_^**

Author’s Note: We did it, guys! We finished! And I say “we” because this journey was just as much yours as it was mine!

I don’t think I have the right words to express how much it means to me that you took the time to read my story. This all began as a fun little project to keep me occupied over the summer, and it turned into something so much more. Dust to Dust is both the best and longest thing I have ever written, and I could not be more proud of this accomplishment. And the fact that some wonderful people out there took the time to read this story that means so much to me, well… It’s just incredible. So thank you. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart.

I have a couple of quick shout-outs before we finish here! Firstly, shoutout to Munterbacon (click his name to read his awesome blog!) for making Evelyn’s husband (without even knowing who he was making!). I asked him to make a sim for me (with very vague specifications) and he totally delivered, so THANK YOU!

Also big shoutouts to KitDragonFlight and JoieWilder (again, click for their blogs!) for giving me some help/advice on some plot details along the way. You guys helped so much! A special shoutout to OJenn  for letting me vent and freak out to her basically daily as I wrote this! She was a constant companion during this journey, so thank you!

And perhaps the biggest thank you of all goes to the amazing ra3rei, who offered me SO MUCH help and guidance during the last several chapters of my story. She inspired me with so many wonderful ideas, helped me talk things out as I worked out plot details, and put up with random and frantic “Oh no, what do I do about this chapter!” messages at all hours of the day. You are wonderful and I owe you immensely!

And lastly, thank YOU (I know I already did that, but it’s worth doing it again!) for reading my story. I appreciate your support SO much. If you are reading this, I would really love it if you would leave me a comment on this post — I don’t need any long, glowing review or anything. Just a quick “hello” so that I can take the time to thank you individually for taking this journey with me. Whether you are reading this the day it’s posted or weeks or months later, I still care and would love to be able to show you some gratitude. Because you are amazing.

It’s been one heck of a ride… Thanks for coming along! So much love to all of you. ❤

Hello, I have just binged-read your story in the past 36 hours and now that I have finished it and look at this epilogue images, I still feel tears coming to my eyes! Your ability to write characters that we, the readers, care about is simply amazing. I am thankful for your sharing your creativity and hard work and look forward to reading more of your stories. As many have said, I can easily see this as a graphic novel or even a movie. Thanks!

I appreciate you taking the time to read and leave me such a lovely comment! 🙂 If you do end up reading more of my stories, I currently have a legacy called Ashes to Ashes that follows Lucas and Mel’s (and Krystina’s :P) descendants 🙂 It’s quite different from D2D but I love writing it.

Thank you again! You’re awesome. ❤

This was probably the most emotional story I have ever read! I have literally cried at every death/birth and when I saw Lucas die… OMG! I couldn’t stop crying I got so attached to him, I literally fell in love with him (I was also a little gealous of Mel!;))
Overall thank you so much for having written such a beautiful and emotional story!

I am crying like a big baby right now. Words aren’t coming to me in a way that would properly express just how wonderful this whole story is. You are an amazing author and I’m truly grateful to call you a friend and to have gone on this journey.
This story–while dramatic in its fashion–carries so much weight and is a beautiful piece of literature.
Thank you for writing this. Thank you for allowing me to walk with these characters and experience their lives with them.

(PS-still crying so if there are typos it's cuz I couldn't see the screen.)

I just recently found this story (today, actually) and read it all in one sitting. I couldn’t stop reading from the start of the first chapter to the very last sentence. I was crying, laughing, and smiling through it all (it’s been an emotional day because of this story, lol). This story inspires me so much to keep writing. I fell in love with every character, and got so attached. Thank you so much for introducing me to the Ainsworth family. ❤️

You should totally try doing a story of your own — it’s so fun and rewarding. I really love it! If you do decide to write a sims story, I recommend checking out the Sims 4 forums (the Stories and Legacies section). It’s how I got into writing sin stories and I have made a lot of friends and read a lot of awesome stories there too!

Thank you again, so much. I’m very glad to have shared Lucas and Ev’s story with you ^_^

    • CitizenErased14 says:

You are too kind, thank you!!! A2A is possibly an even worse roller coaster than D2D was, be warned haha. It’s essentially a soap opera in SimLit form. My first generation is very light and relatively drama free… From gen 2 onward, it’s a downward spiral into drama-city LMAO

Just fair warning 😛 Thank you again for reading!

I can’t believe I’ve read your story twice now and it touches me just as much the second time around as the first. It is truly one of the most amazing stories I have ever read and several times I felt like I wanted to shed a few tears.
I think my favorite chapter was the one where Lucas came back to console Evelyn (chapter 100). It was so moving and touching, the way he talked to her, and how she finally realized what she was missing out on. And your Epilogue! Wow! It’s amazing how strong a wordless chapter can be. This is also one of my favorite chapters. Perhaps my most favorite of them all! They way you portrayed her life from falling in love to dying of old age in a home… I mean, wow!

If you ever publish this as an actual book by writing it as actual people and not sims, I will be first in line to buy it! Love it from the depth of my heart!

Thank you so much for writing this!

The Alex-wedding thing was pretty much an accident XD I couldn’t show his wife’s face, and wasn’t sure who he’d actually get with in the legacy. I hoped he’d find someone with brown hair, and he did! So when the real wedding happened, I made sure the hair and dress matched 😉

Thanks again for re-reading D2D. It seriously means so much. I love Ashes to Ashes, but D2D will always be my baby. 🙂

I agree with everyone who has complimented you on your skills and understand why you are so proud and satisfied with this touching story. I rooted for all the characters, even if I liked some of them less than the others ( it was only because of personal bias, they were all well-developed and balanced-out), so I was thrilled with the ending. Thanks for the journey!

I enjoyed this so much! I had so many thoughts during the reading but I figured the answer might come later on or my opinion didn’t really matter cause the story was already written lol! Anyway, thank you for this story. When I read through it, I was sick, and it really brought me some joy in my miserable state! Now to read this legacy of yours… I’m excited to do so. Please never hesitate to comment 🙂 Your opinion always matters, and I LOVE getting comments from readers on D2D these days (unfortunately most readers make the assumption you did — that I don’t want comments because the story is over. But it’s the opposite! I love them so much and wish I got more! Haha).

I know it’s too late now for D2D, but I hope as you read my legacy you never feel afraid to share a thought/leave a comment 🙂 I adore comments (and I do my best to respond to every one!)

I’m glad you’re feeling better! Take your time with A2A. It’s LONG 😂 (but most of the chapters are short, especially in the first two gens).

I hope you enjoy seeing what Lucas’ descendants get up to (Though they are Rosebrooks thanks to Krysti’s husband Mitch, they are all truly Ainsworths at heart… Meaning they’re very flawed and hate communicating LMAO Thank you, Lucas… :P). That story is very much a “Sim Soap Opera” (minus my deceptively calm first generation LMAO). I just like to warn people ahead of time that it’s quite different from D2D 😛

Amazing! After lurking around for a while between this story & Ashes to Ashes, I finally decided to “come out of the shadows” and comment. Truly, I started this story a few months ago, then kind of gave it up as life has been pretty busy. I’ve been having a little better luck following Ashes to Ashes up to date.

Today, I got a little bit of a break and came back to this story, doing some major binge reading from where I had left off.

I like both stories, but this one is my favorite. I particularly like Evelyn’s encounter with Christian, and all the intertwining of the characters from that point to the end…especially the addition of Death’s point of view.

Thank you for sharing your stories, your talent, and commitment invested into each character.

This is easily the best Sims story I’ve ever read. It’s so clear that you put your heart and soul into this and it adds so much. You have so much talent and a beautiful imagination. One of the best parts for me is that (as another storyteller who has never been brave enough to try this… I keep my ideas to myself) you’ve inspired me so much to TRY.

You’ve added something special to my life; I really feel like I’ve gained something by having read your story.

Wow, it was a long journey, three generations and all we got to see here at the end. I really didn’t know how you’d end the story but I am not disappointed. So awesome, I was gone for more than a year, I believe but I came back as if I had not had left at all. That’s how great the story is, I didn’t need to go back and start it again to remember everything that had happened.
So happy for this ending and that she finally learned to live a selfless life. 🙂

I found this yesterday and just finished reading it. The way you portrayed death as not being a bad thing comes at a time when I really needed it. My uncle just passed to the other side yesterday in his sleep. Like Lucas, he had lived a full life. He was 80 years old, had a wife and a daughter. Your story shows that it is those left behind that feel the pain of the loss, not those who are moving on to their next journey. After reading this I can smile and think of Uncle Larry in a forest clearing meeting with his parents and his brother once again. Thank you.

Now I am going to go read Ashes to Ashes.

Hi, I have just completed reading your story, and it was amazing!! I actually began reading the Ashes to Ashes story before actually reading this story (I began reading Dust to Dust after I reached Zayne’s generation in A2A). I am so glad that I chose to read this story as well. I must admit I wasn’t always a fan of Evelyn as I felt she was holding back Lucas from truly living his life, but those final chapters really had me. The Epilogue made me cry. It was so nice to see her live out her life and then finally be able to see everyone she loved once again. Truly amazing story. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into this story.

I was already crying from the beginning of this chapter – literally, while the page loaded! In my previous comment I wasn’t sure which direction you would take – would you show Ev’s beginning or her end? And you did both! It was so brilliantly heartwarming and tear-jerking, and this whole story has been such a phenomenal piece of writing and story-telling – I have never been more in love with a Sims story than I am now ❤

I love how you had flashbacks to when Ev met Lucas, among other things – even though I read that very first chapter only yesterday, it still feels like long-ago history because of the amazing way you write. Which just makes everything that happens in the most recent chapters more bittersweet and emotional.

I read a comment you wrote at some point where you explained the title of your story, and how you incorporated the theme of a cycle – the story starts with a ghost and a living Sim, and ends with a ghost and a living Sim, but the roles are reversed. I think that was an incredible idea, and I can definitely see it as a book! (You can do it – the author of Twilight got her ideas from fan fiction!)

My experience reading your story was the same as reading an epic book – at the end of it, you kind of just don't even know what to do with your life anymore (except in this case, I'll be checking out Ashes to Ashes!)

I was thinking it a while back but forgot to say, I love how none of the characters are perfect. Of course, you knew where you wanted the story to go and what the characters to feel and do, but the story reads like you're recounting their lives and histories – nothing feels forced or too perfect. It's hard to describe 😅 It's just further evidence of an incredibly talented author ❤

AND before I forget, I had a feeling Ev would see Lucas again, which is so bittersweet, but the unexpected moment that had me crying again was when Ev saw her parents again 😭😭😭 It really was the perfect ending to an inventive, unique, creative, accomplished, genius story! (I had to use the thesaurus because I've already told you how your story is incredible, amazing, etc. 😁)

Thank you for the wonderful read ❤

This comment is so incredibly sweet and flattering that I genuinely am having a hard time formulating a response haha So please forgive me for that!

It seriously means so much to me that you took the time to read my story, and that you let my characters worm their way into your heart ❤️ This story will always be really, really special to me. I put a lot of myself into it (even though at the start I had no idea what it would turn into! It got so much deeper than I’d imagined it would. And it was such a joy to write 🙂 )

Your feedback is incredibly kind and encouraging and I appreciate it so much! And I appreciate that you plan on reading Ashes to Ashes as well! I will warn you of two things about that story ahead of time haha One is that it’s still on-going (since it is a legacy) and (please don’t let this part scare you haha) it’s already much longer than Dust to Dust. I know you felt a little intimidated by the length of D2D, so with A2A I would recommend taking your time so you don’t feel overwhelmed 🙂

The other thing is that it’s kind of different from D2D. It starts out pretty light, but then it turns into what is essentially a soap opera. Lots of drama and angst and emotions. A bit over-the-top (even moreso than this story was 😉 hehe) Lucas’ descendants definitely carry on the family tradition of being imperfect. I can tell you that much haha

Sorry for rambling about A2A. Just wanted to prepare you if you do decide to move forward an read it!

Thank you again for this lovely comment and for sharing your thoughts on this story (and on Paranormal too! The next chapter of that one is still in the works haha). The fact that you took the time to not only read but also leave your lovely comments really means so much. THANK YOU!!!!! ❤️

Thank YOU for taking time to reply to my comments, especially after D2D has been finished for a while! Cannot wait for the next chapter of PNN, and maybe I’ll wait until the weekend to start reading A2A 😉<3

Wow, just wow. I have found out that people writing stories to the sims a few days ago when I was reading the sims 4 blog and you were the spotlight simmer. It has taken me about three days to read this story, I literally would go to sleep, wake up, read, work, read, sleep, wake up, read. I could not stop reading this story. It is such a great concept, and you went into such detail of every character. Considering the large timeline this story followed, it made so much sense. This story is HANDS down the best thing I have read/ found on the internet. I am still so stunned at how amazing this story was. I loved every minute of it. Please, do not stop writing. Keep writing stories, publish stories. I know this story is from 2015, and here it is 2 years later I am digging it up, but wow, just wow.

Okay, I just finished binge reading anothe one of your stories. I admit I read Ashes to Ashes first, but I was too curious not to read the background story of your wonderful family. This story, made me smile, and made me cry, but I don’t regret reading any word. I enjoyed it all, even though I was gritting my teeth at times, waiting for poor Evelyn to be brought back. It was a bit sad that Lucas had to die to bring her back, but I think he would have held her back. She was young and full of energy, while he was old and tired. I love the pictures in the Epilogue. I’m so glad you followed her through to the end, and beyond. I’m glad we got to see her reunited with him, after all these long years. Great story! I’m also loving your others, and I’m so glad you are sharing your talent and your sims with all of us, humble fans.

Thank you so much for reading! (And not just D2D, A2A too! ^_^) I hope this has given some insight into the family’s history (and some context for the references A2A makes to D2D too :P)

It was definitely a long journey for Lucas and Evelyn, with plenty of frustration and sadness 😦 But Lucas would do it all over again if five the choice 🙂

Thank you again for reading, and for your very kind words! 🙂

Wow. Just wow. I’ve read this story over the course of about a week, taking time to read it during breaks and lunch at work, falling asleep in bed, while my boyfriend played video games, and even while bonding and holding my two little sugar gliders. It has been an amazing journey with all of these amazing characters and Sims. They all endured so much love and miss in their own respective ways. I was at a loss for words and absolutely mortified when I lost my first long-term Sim named Natalie Winters. I even played up until her -great-grandson was about to move out and oh so much changed through the generations and their lives. I absolutely loved (and am still in-love with) this story. I’m super excited to read A2A next as you are a talented Simmer and writer.

Take your time with A2A! It’s very long and very soap-Opera like/melodramatic from Gen 2 onward haha very different from d2d. But I hope you enjoy and I so appreciate you reading! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Okay so I read things totally out of order (aka A2A first) and I hadn’t been sure it would be worth reading D2D since I’d done that but I’m SO glad that I did. Ugh. I’m just so utterly in love with this family. SO in love. Your story telling is amazing and your photos were able to convey so much during the wordless chapters.

This was definitely one of my favorite Sim stories ever. Well done!

I’m glad you enjoyed this story so much, and I hope you’re enjoying my crazy soap opera (A2A 😉 ) too!

      Thanks again ❤️❤️❤️

What an emotional rollercoaster. I can’t express how much I enjoyed this story. Every character was so unique, vibrant and amazingly crafted. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I’ve cried over the course of this story, because so many of those small sentimental moments just *get* me right in the feels. Every moment was just so perfect and I love how every single character went on their own journey, even if the story didn’t revolve around them. Congratulations on such a successful story – I’m sure it has and will continue to bring joy to so many people. 🙂

I found it 6 hours ago. And these six hours I spent reading this. Well, once I did a short break because I went to make myself a tea… 🙂 I read many books good writers and I was not prepared for such a well composed and written story created on the basis – let’s face it – quite a primitive pixel personality. Each person in your story has an individual, complex personality, and most importantly you can transfer the reader into the world you create, This is a great talent.
Thank you for the wonderful few hours that I spent thanks to you.
I apologize for the mistakes that I could do in what I wrote, because English is not my native language. Fortunately, I read English texts very quickly and without a problem
